I caught A doxie

Rommel, my classic red dachshund, is ball-obsessed. And by ball-obsessed, I mean he will go without food, water, sleep and everything else as long as he’s playing fetch. In fact, Rommel doesn’t do much else but play ball or attempt to play ball — which is rather annoying given that he’s constantly throwing a ball at your feet when you’re trying to walk, sit, stand or anything else.
Now Rommel is an excellent fetcher and he’s quicker and better at intercepting an incoming throw than even our Mastiff, Odin. (I know certain baseball teams that would benefit from having Rommel as short stop). But occasionally, Rommel gets it in his head not to let go of his freshly retrieved ball. He’ll bring it back all right, but he simply won’t release it from his mouth. When he’s in this mood, my husband likes to call it “Doxie fishing” because you can literally grab the ball in his mouth and lift him off the ground. Better yet, Rommel will grab on tighter and attempt to “snap the ball’s neck” which actually makes it look like he thrashing around like a hooked fish.
It’s all very entertaining on a relaxing Sunday afternoon. Here’s a few photos from one recent “Doxie fishing” trip.

Rommel Brings the ball back, but won’t let go.

My husband grabs the ball and the dog comes with it.

Look! He caught a Doxie!
